Kangxi 1662-1722
These are a pair of Kangxi bowls, both showcasing exquisite craftsmanship, though one has two minor chips around the edge—perfectly normal for pieces of this age and period. The first bowl has a diameter of 22.4 cm (approximately 8.8 inches) and a height of 10.4 cm (approximately 4.1 inches). The second bowl has a diameter of 22 cm (approximately 8.7 inches) and a height of 10 cm (approximately 3.9 inches).
The exteriors of the bowls are richly adorned with various scenes and detailed rim decorations featuring ancient artifacts, such as incense burners, vases with flowers, books, scrolls, musical instruments, and landscape scenes. The floral designs include prunus, lotus, and peonies, all symbols of elevated status. Many of the scenes are inspired by The Romance of the Western Chamber, depicting an attendant presenting a scholar with objects of symbolic meaning. Inside, the bowls feature a molded relief of a lotus flower, adding to their intricate beauty. The bottoms of the bowls bear the Chenghua mark, indicating their high quality and adherence to classic styles. Despite the minor chips, these bowls remain a sight to behold, representing the finest of Kangxi period porcelain.
