The Kangxi famille verte bowl from Jiangxi province, with a diameter of 20.5 cm (approximately 8.1 inches), is an exquisite example of Qing Dynasty porcelain. The term famille verte refers to the vibrant color palette used, with dominant green hues complemented by shades of yellow, blue, red, and purple. This particular bowl is adorned with intricate floral scenes on its interior, including a basket of peony flowers, symbolic elements, flowering pots, and phoenixes, all contributing to its rich decorative charm.
The base of the bowl is marked with a cobalt blue flower within a double circle, a signature that signifies authenticity and quality craftsmanship. The rarity and value of this piece are further underscored by the fact that an identical bowl is part of the Benaki Museum’s collection, as noted in George Manginis’s book China Rediscovered. The inclusion of a similar piece in such a prestigious collection highlights the bowl’s cultural and historical significance.
