Raymond de Meester de Betzenbroeck is considered one of the most essential Belgian painters
and animal sculptors from the 20th century. His oeuvre is characterized by a natural, powerful, and, at the same time, it is an elegant representation of the animal.
He visited for study and inspiration in the years 1925-’31
the Antwerp Zoo every day.
His keen observation and diligence paid off: he took part in the
World exhibitions in Antwerp (1930) and Brussels (1935) received commissions for monuments and
was awarded several times. His work can be found in essential museums in Brussels, Antwerp,
